Deep Water Bay Regatta 2018
The first time in years that we didn’t have a drop of rain during the Deep Water Bay regatta! A beautiful day to celebrate Earth Day, complete with a water station (no single-use bottles!) and bamboo cups for the beer.
Having arrived at our beach camp at some ungodly hour, we got ready for our first race at 9:30. Still somewhat sleepy, the first race served as a wake-up call…. Paddling against strong competition, we didn’t quite succeed and came in fourth, with a time of 2:36:659. This first race brought us into the repechage at 10:20.
With a fresh crew (and some more coffee), we shaved off a few seconds from the time of our first race, coming in at 02:33.139. Alas, the competition was a tad bit stronger, so we made it to third place, and this brought us into the tail race.
After lunch, with a rested crew, our boat ran like a well-oiled machine, and we confidently paddled towards the finish line, winning the race at 02:35.198, with a good nine second lead! While we were getting off the boat at the pontoon, another boat almost crashed into ours, with the dragon head wedging in between some of our paddlers … luckily, nobody got hurt.
We ended the day with a great party, beer line and new member initiation (thanks for the tequila, Fab!) included. Congratulations, and thanks all for your hard work during the trainings!
Thanks to our sponsors Delphic HSE, Früh Kölsch Hong Kong, Fugazi – HK, Mazu, Padstow Restaurant & Bar, Schmoll Asia Pacific, and Shoreditch.
Special thanks to James, who is doing an amazing job as our new captain, and to Alex for steering us.
Go, Loreley!
